Social innovation and social entrepreneurship
- On 10/03/2020
“Social innovation means developing new ideas, services and models to better address social issues. It invites input from public and private actors, including civil society, to improve social services.” – European Commission
In other terms, social innovation is the actions that individuals can put in place to boost, develop, make better and change social issues. This mission can be included in a different area of activities. Since a couple of years, the business has adopted these initiatives to help the social and environmental challenges that can be encountered in societies.
As an example, social entrepreneurship is part of social innovation in enterprises. It is the inclusion of social innovation in businesses. It is behind dedicated to social actions such as:
- held old people
- be respectful of the environment through the innovation of selling a product or create it
- find a new solution to promote environmental protection
- put in place an action through the activity of an enterprise and place the funds at the service of a social issue
This approach is becoming popular in schools and businesses over the years. But what is truly social entrepreneurship?
According to Hubspot, it is “the combination of commerce with social issues. Social entrepreneurs aren’t only concerned with profits. Success is also defined by how their business improves the world. Unlike nonprofits, social entrepreneurship still earns a profit, but the focus is placed on the social or environmental change made while earning that profit“.
The European project “Desire: Digital Education for Social Innovation Reframed Entrepreneurship” focuses on social entrepreneurship for pupils. This project aims to develop social entrepreneurship sense in student’s social entrepreneurship. The idea of the project is to create a training for teachers that can bring a lesson to their students on how to become social entrepreneurs in the future. Social innovation and social entrepreneurship are approaches that include actions that can be done by any of us with the desire to help, support, give a hand to societies, people and the environment with the intention to improve them.
